Prep QBs Visit Catawba

Over the weekend, Catawba saw visits from some of North Carolina's top prep quarterbacks. The signal-callers went through many drills and observations, a common practice among Division II institutions when evaluating talent. No scholarship details have been released and will not be official until National Signing Day. This article only refers to the prospects that have taken an official visit to the Catawba campus.

West Craven QB Brett Mooring was the state's leading passer in 2008 with 3,891 yards and 35 TDs, according to MaxPreps.com.

Brett Lilly is a dual-threat QB from Hickory Ridge HS. As a passer he threw for 1,240 yards and 9 TDs, while tallying 804 rushing yards with his feet.

Newton-Conover finished the 2008 season as 2A state champions and a dazzling 15-1 mark. The Red Devils were led by superb option quarterback AJ Bazzle. He accounted for 1,194 passing yards and 9 TDs in the air, and 834 rushing yards and 24 rushing TDs on the ground.

Tyler Jaynes was a NCPreps.com All-State QB nominee after a fantastic prep season at Pisgah HS. The Black Bears finished 9-4 during his senior year, racking up 2,100 passing yards in the process. As a junior, Jaynes tossed for 3,179 yards and 28 TDs.
