Trexler Field Goal Wins it for White Team

Catawba College Sports Information

The defense shined at Catawba’s Blue-White Spring Game as Thomas Trexler provided the lone points with a 22-yard field goal on the final play of the game to give the White a 3-0 win. The White totaled only 89 yards on the day, but had three interceptions and recorded four sacks.

Marqus Davis had three of the sacks for the White squad, which stated its winning drive after an interception by Bryant Vennable on its own 37-yard line with 1:51 left. Daniel Griffith moved the White across midfield with a 14-yard scramble and later hit Brandon Bunn for 10 yards on a key third-down conversion.

A pass interference penalty on the Blue moved the ball to the 20-yard line and Griffith tossed an 11-yard pass to Bobby Morrison to move the White inside the 10. Trexler converted from short range on the final play.

The White had a touchdown called back for an illegal formation on its previous possession. The penalty wiped out a 60-yard strike from Griffith to Gerron Bryant. Dennis and Griffith were terrible in this game. At least Griffith is still growing as a QB and has an excuse, Dennis has no excuses for his 9 - 24 showing. Dennis has proven he has no place in the QB battle for next spring; but I'm sure that most of us knew that a few years ago.

I agree Dennis Was terrible. But Griffith wasnt so bad if you look at the game. Tewilliger dropped two passes. Bryant dropped a key first down. He also wiped out a 60-yard strike from Griffith for lining up off the ball. So if you look at it, his overall day wasnt bad. Although i do agree he could have done better, But lets not forget he led his team when it counted and his numbers would've alot better had he connected with his receivers!

I agree. Griffith wasnt so bad. Not to mention he didnt throw any interceptions. With a bad offensive line, he stood in there very well for is first spring game
